Murder at Blockworthy Hall

The Play is set in the stately home of Blockworthy Hall in the late 1920s.

It is the Dowager Lady Ernestia Blockworthy’s 80th Birthday and family and friends are gathering to celebrate the event, much to the delight of Lady Isabel and much to the annoyance of her husband, the somewhat cantankerous Lord Makepeace. Problems of an unlikely sort arise in the kitchen as the long-suffering housekeeper, Lily Hoover, and her husband, the very ‘un-Jeeves-like’ Butler, Miles, have great difficulty in producing Lady Ernestia’s favourite dinner. A series of comings and goings, malapropisms and misunderstandings gradually reveal the family secrets, about which the scheming gamekeeper, Reginald Trudge, purports to know a great deal, apparently from his observations at the Hall and discussions with the locals down at ‘The Old Donkey’ public house in the village. Further secrets are revealed with the arrival of the District Commissioner of Blockworthy Pony Club, and her ‘dawgs’. The sherry flows freely, the Butler can’t cope, Lady Ernestia becomes more saucy as the night goes on and, amid the hilarity, Lady Isabel endeavours to keep some semblance of normality within her very dysfunctional 1920s aristocratic family! Absolutely anything could happen next, and Lady Ernestia will certainly have a birthday to remember!

Welcome to Blockworthy Hall!
